A Collection of Evening Images from the Jackson Hole Area.
If you hang around long enough each night, you have a chance to capture a spectacular sunset. They are a little tougher, at least in my opinion, than sunrises here in the mountains. In most flat areas of the country, the best sunset light happens just as the sun starts setting on the horizon. But here in the valley east of the Tetons, the mountain range itself blocks our view of the last moment of sunset light. In other words, the sun sets over the Tetons much earlier than it sets over the horizon in Idaho. Throw in the possibility of a thick bank of clouds somewhere between the Tetons and the horizon. When that happens, we get a dull sunset here. Occasionally, the thin clouds light up and we get the sunsets we all dream about!

Photography Info: The early shots on this page were taken with a Nikon D300. Some were taken with a Nikon D4, and the recent images were taken with a Nikon D800. Most were photographed with a Nikon 24-70 mm lens. A few of the tight shots were taken with a Nikon 70-200 mm lens or a Nikon 200-400 mm lens. All were taken with the aid of a Gitzo Tripod and an Arca-Swiss Ball Head. In most cases, I had the ISO set to it’s base of either IS0 200 or ISO 100 and most would have been shot at F/8 to F/11 in Aperture Priority. In many cases, I also set up and photographed the same shot with multiple captures for stitched panoramic images.
Could you tell me the location of the Hedrick Pond photo? I really would like to take this shot when I come in Oct. All of your photos are outstanding! Thanks.
